Help The Afghan Children (HTAC)
- There are about 4.5 million primary school-aged children.
- 97% of primary school-aged girls and 61% of primary school-aged boys do not attend school.
- Over 92% of girls and 76% of boys below the age of 15 cannot read or write.
- More than 2000 schools have been destroyed.
- Current student teacher ratio: 200 to 1.
- Educational curriculum has not been revised for 30 years, and virtually no modern educational practices have been introduced for decades.

Kohak Primary School
- Located in Kohak Village, 15K from Kandahar City.
- Construction of the 20 classroom school building is complete, but unable to operate at full capacity due to funding shortages.
- Able to serve more than 1,600 girls and boys in two shifts who at present lack any means of formal education.
- Currently there are 12 teachers educating 471 students.
Kohak Primary School Needs
- Educational supplies for students and teachers such as notebooks, paper, writing instruments, drawing/coloring supplies, blackboard chalk, and reading resources.
- Desks and chairs.
- Educational stipends for teachers and administrative staff.
- Support of electricity/generator, guards, and other school maintenance.
