January 2004
Dear Rhode Island Middle and High School English Teachers :

Recognizing that literacy is an incredible challenge facing all Rhode Islanders, the goal of Reading Across Rhode Island is to encourage ALL Rhode Islanders to read the same book and to participate in discussions, activities and public events centered on the book during the early months of 2004. In order to involve middle and high school students, our education committee has compiled an extensive list of ideas for student responses to this book. Please feel free to email any of your ideas for responses to our website: . –all appropriate responses are encouraged. We ask that you share the following information with your students, and for you to submit any responses you feel demonstrate thought and creativity.
